Five ways to avoid furniture accidents and Florida home insurance claims

You probably know your home so well that you could find your way around it blindfolded without banging your shin on a table or knocking over a vase, but don’t forget that a visitor to your home is not so familiar with its layout or furniture. Don’t rely on Florida home insurance for compensation if someone is injured or something is damaged in an accident in your home: avoid accidents by being aware of some of the hazards of furniture.
- People are not always watching where they walk; to avoid stumbling, be careful where you place low furniture like coffee tables.
- Children’s bunk beds are often linked with nasty accidents. Consider banning them from your home.
- Be aware of the hazards posed by tall furniture like bookcases. Have them securely attached to walls so that they are less unstable.
- Make sure that furniture is in a good state of repair; fix wobbly chair legs and other faults that could cause accidents.
- Fit good locks on cabinets that contain potentially harmful products like cleaning materials, insecticides or medications.
It’s impossible to avoid all accidents, and Florida home insurance is a second line of defense against property damage and injuries. Make safety a high priority when you are buying furniture or placing it in your home to minimize the risk of accidents.
