Are you having some work done on the roof of your home in Florida? The roof protects the rest of your home and its’ contents from the elements, and it’s important to ensure that work on your roof is done competently using good quality materials. Talk to your agent or insurer if you are uncertain what roof repairs are covered by your Florida home insurance policy.

Take note of these tips when hiring a roofing contractor.

  • Request quotes from at least three licensed contractors.
  • Compare the quotes so that you understand what they cover, including matters such as materials and techniques to be used and warranties offered.
  • Ask your shortlisted contractor for the names of three references, and call them to check that they were satisfied with the contractor’s work.
  • Ask for a written contract and make sure that you understand the terms. Don’t sign the contract until you are satisfied that your queries have been resolved.
  • Ask the contractor you choose to provide proof of workers’ compensation insurance and liability protection in case of an accident while working on your roof.

Don’t allow yourself to be rushed or pressured into making a decision or signing a contract for your roofing project. Choose your contractor carefully after contacting references, sighting proof of licensing and insurance, and being satisfied that any questions have been answered to your satisfaction. Be sure to contact your Florida home insurance provider if you have any questions about home insurance coverage for roofing work.
